Stop click fraud against your shop's ads

Shopify is an e-commerce platform that helps businesses sell online and in person. Hitprobe can easily be installed on Shopify sites to offer click fraud protection. This blocks fake and malicious clicks on ads that click through to Shopify store fronts.

To install Hitprobe on Shopify, it's simply a case of adding a small JavaScript (the Hitprobe tag) to each page of your store. There's really 3 ways to go about this. Here's a quick run through of the options:

  1. Use Google Tag Manager. If you already use Google Tag Manager (GTM) on your Shopify site, you can follow Hitprobe's GTM tag setup steps for the quickest option here.
  2. Edit your Shopify template directly. For this option, you'll need to edit the template code for your site and paste in the script. It looks a little intimidating at first but is actually pretty straightforward.
  3. Use a Shopify App to add custom code. There are simple apps that you can install (such as XO Insert Code) that will allow you to add the script without directly editing your store template.

We've listed the options in our recommended order. We'll walk through each of the options next.

First, get the Hitprobe tag

After you sign up for a free Hitprobe account, you'll go through an onboarding step that will provide the tag for you to copy from the screen. Keep this ready for the next step. Alternatively, see our guide to how to configure your tag.

Using Google Tag Manager

If you already use Google Tag Manager (GTM) on your Shopify site, you can login to Google Tag Manager and then follow Hitprobe's GTM tag setup steps.

Editing the Shopify template directly

Here are the steps you'll need to follow to add the Hitprobe tag to your Shopify site directly:

  1. First, you'll need to login to your Shopify admin panel.
  2. When you're in the admin panel, click on Online Store in the left-hand menu, and then select Themes.
  3. Find the theme you want to edit (your current store theme), click on the three dots icon (⋯), then select Edit code.
  4. In the list of files on the left hand side, find the theme.liquid file under the Layout section. Click on the file to open it.
  5. Find the </head> tag, and paste the tag just before it.
  6. Finally, click the Save button to save the template. That's all done!

Using a Shopify app instead

There are some Shopify apps available that allow you to add custom code to your site without editing templates directly as described above. As you can see above, it's not too difficult so we'd recommend simply following the steps above instead.

However, if you'd still prefer to use an app, many Shopify users rate XO Insert Code highly.

Follow these steps to use XO Insert Code to add the tag:

  1. First, install the XO Insert Code app on your Shopify store.
  2. Follow their guide to adding code using app embeds and enable the XO Insert code Header option.
  3. Copy the Hitprobe tag into the Custom HTML and Liquid code field.
